Information bureau

Before the advent of the Internet, the only way to get the information you needed was through so-called "information bureaus." Through the network of these establishments, which numbered 34 in different districts of Kyiv, residents of the capital, among other things, found the addresses of friends and businesses.

The old photos were published in the community "Thirst: Kyiv is interesting" on Facebook. However, in some cases, the processing time for "requests" was long, up to two weeks.

"Kyiv, Information Bureau, 1960s. This is how we lived without the Internet... There were 34 information bureaus in different districts of Kyiv. They were used by those who needed to find out the addresses of friends, acquaintances, institutions, and businesses," the project authors said.

It is noted that the information service also carried out more complex tasks, such as finding a person who lives in another city through the address table. It was enough to give the person's last name, first name, and patronymic. You would receive a certificate in two weeks.
