This is what one of the oldest botanical gardens in Ukraine looked like in 1960. Archive photos of Kyiv

This year, the Fomin Botanical Garden is to celebrate its 185th anniversary. We can see how this location in the capital, which is a popular place for walks and recreation for Kyiv residents, looked like in 1960 thanks to old photos.

The archive photos were posted on the Telegram channel of Kyrylo Stepanets, a Kyiv guide. It is a park-monument of landscape art of national importance.

"Botanical Garden named after Academician Fomin in 1960. This garden is considered one of the oldest botanical gardens in Ukraine, this year it will turn 185 years old," the statement reads.

The Academician Oleksandr Fomin Botanical Garden of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is one of the oldest botanical institutions in Ukraine, founded in 1839.

As a reminder, one of the ways to see Kyiv in the early twentieth century, besides photos, is through old postcards. They have always been a good way to preserve the memory of the capital of Ukraine.

Mykola Mikhnovskyi Boulevard in Kyiv runs in the Pechersk district of the capital along the Chorna Hora and Zvirynets neighborhoods. It was originally planned as part of the Ring Road, which it never became.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Kyiv has its own real ghost street: Voznesenskyi Yar. It has been known since the late nineteenth century and in some places still retains the breath of the old city.
