"This hasn't happened since the days of the British colonizers!" Details of the party after which Sri Lanka canceled free visas for Ukrainians and Russians have emerged

Sri Lankans commented on the "white" party of Russians

Since March 2024, Russian and Ukrainian citizens have been denied free visas to Sri Lanka. Locals, media, and emigrants from the Russian Federation are convinced that the reason is the "white party " that Russian tourists announced in late February. Propagandists contacted witnesses to the scandal and learned new details.

As it turned out, the indigenous people of Sri Lanka are indeed extremely outraged by the racism of the guests, so they support the decision to cancel the "visa-free" campaign. A comment from one such family was published by Russian media.

The Sarayka Lounge club, where the party was supposed to be held for whites only, was quite popular among residents of Unawatuna and its environs. However, according to one of the former visitors, the club is now going through difficult times.

"I let my daughter go there if she is with her older brothers, and my sons are 25 and 28 years old. Then I'm not worried about her. My daughter told me that almost all the people in this club are Europeans. On February 22, she was also going there, choosing a dress. And then my son saw what was written at the bottom of the announcement: "Entrance for whites only". We hadn't seen anything like that since the days of the British colonizers! They threw us back a few centuries!" said the local resident's father.

After the club, the Russian ambassador, and the organizer were forced to apologize, the scandal seemed to die down, but a week later the authorities categorically stated that they would not issue free visas to guests from Russia and Ukraine.

It is noteworthy that Ukrainians were not involved in the showdown at all, nor was the Ukrainian embassy. According to residents, the parties at the club were organized by Russians and the British.

Whatever the case, the consequences mostly affected Russian tourists and expats, who came to the resort country over 288,000 times in two years. For comparison, about 20 thousand Ukrainians arrived on the island.

As OBOZ.UA wrote, one of the other versions of why Sri Lanka drove Russians out of the country with a broom was their impudent way of doing business. Not only is it illegal, but it often selects employees on racial grounds.
