Spathiphyllum, or "peaceful lily," is a popular houseplant that pleases its owners with its delicate white flowers. However, caring for it can be difficult, especially during the cold season.

Owners often face problems with yellowing leaves, wilting, and even death of the plant. The main reason for this may be the incorrect location of the spathiphyllum in the house.

Experts emphasize that you should be careful about the place where this flower is located because some areas can negatively affect its condition. Following the recommendations will help keep the plant healthy even in the winter months.

Where should the flowerpot of "female happiness" stand

Many spathiphyllum owners do not think about the impact of the environment on the plant. In fact, the place where the pot stands can directly affect its growth and development. Improper conditions can cause stress to the plant, as well as cause black spots and slow growth. It is especially important to avoid sudden changes in temperature.

One of the biggest threats to spathiphyllum in winter is drafts and cold. If the plant stands near a window that is often opened, or near a door through which cold air enters, it may begin to wither. Temperatures below 13°C cause stress in spathiphyllum, which is reflected in its appearance.

In addition to cold, the plant does not tolerate excessive heat. If the pot is placed near a radiator or fireplace, the dry hot air can dry out the soil and reduce the humidity level around it. This leads to drying out of the leaves and slower growth.

What the spathiphyllum doesn't like

Spathiphyllum prefers a humid environment, so the humidity level in the room should be between 50-60%. That is why the best places for the plant may be the bathroom or kitchen, where there is natural humidity due to water vapor.

To provide the plant with comfortable conditions in winter, it should be placed in a room with a warm, stable temperature. It is optimal to place the pot near a window facing south or west, but not in direct sunlight.

How to water spathiphyllum

In the cold season, the need for watering decreases. Experts advise watering spathiphyllum about once every two weeks, but always check the soil before adding water. The top few centimeters of the earth should be dry before watering the plant again.

Excessive watering can lead to root rot, which is manifested by yellowing of the leaves and their falling off. Therefore, avoid stagnant water in the pot and use well-drained soil.

Caring for spathiphyllum in winter requires special attention. It is important to avoid placing the plant in cold places, near drafts, radiators, and fireplaces. Maintaining a stable temperature, sufficient humidity, and moderate watering will help maintain the health of the plant and enjoy its beauty throughout the year.
