Kyiv trams of the 1960s and 70s

The tram appeared in Kyiv in the late nineteenth century, but it immediately began to develop and gained immense popularity among the city's residents. The heyday of this mode of transportation was in the 1950s and 1960s when its network was expanding and the cars were becoming more comfortable.

The archival photos were published in the "Club of Native Kyivans" community on Facebook. Before the subway, this type of electric transport was more popular than buses and trolleybuses.

"Kyiv trams of the 1960s and 1970s," the post reads.

It is worth adding that in the published photos you can see cars that may have survived only in the capital's tram depots.

It's worth adding that the tram appeared in Kyiv at the end of the 19th century, but it immediately began to develop actively and gained immense popularity among the citizens. Few people know, but its predecessor was a horse-drawn carriage that ran along the rails, and the first cars were, in particular, steam-powered.

As a reminder, Boryspil International Airport received its first flight back in 1959. In 1968, newsreel filmmakers captured two minutes of everyday life at Kyiv's main air gate.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, spring floods have always been a big problem for Kyiv residents, especially those who lived on the islands and near the Dnipro. In 1929, the founder of modern documentary filmmaking, Ukrainian director Mykhailo Kaufman, used his camera to preserve this interesting moment in the history of the Ukrainian capital.
