The web shows what Podil looked like in Kyiv in 1942. A unique panoramic photo
Old photographs remain an opportunity for us to see what Kyiv used to look like, in particular, its historic Podil neighborhood. Thanks to an unknown photographer, we have a panorama of this location taken in 1942.
The old photos were published on the Telegram channel of the "Historic Kyiv" community. Today, the area looks completely different.
"Panorama of Podil from the Kyiv hills. 1942," the post reads.
The photo shows Poshtova Square, Trukhaniv Island, when Kyivans still lived there, Rybalskyi Island, and the embankment.
As a reminder, the "Lvivska Brama" ghost station of the Syretsko-Pecherska metro line in Kyiv is one of the most favorite destinations for urban diggers and extreme tourism enthusiasts. The unfinished facility of the Kyiv subway is shrouded in mystery and legends.
Until 1979, one of the forgotten symbols of old Kyiv could be seen in the place where the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian people is located today. The "Elephant" fountain managed to survive the Second World War, but not the Soviet regime.
