The most beautiful road on the west coast of Italy, which was destroyed by a landslide 12 years ago, will reopen to visitors. The Ligurian Via dell'Amore route, which translates to the Way of Love, was opened on July 27.

The Way of Love collapsed in 2012, and restoration work began only in 2022. The Mirror has more about the tourist attraction of the western Italian coast.

The road over the sea stretches for 900 meters and has become an iconic symbol of Liguria as one of the most famous trails in the world. The path connects two small picturesque villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola. The Cinque Terre area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

The path is dug through solid rock. It is believed that this path originated in the early 20th century, when the Genoa-La Spezia railway line was being modernized.

The railroad workers needed a footpath to move between Riomaggiore and Manarola when the tunnel between the two villages was being built. According to legend, the path became a meeting place for lovers from the two villages.

La Spezia in Liguria is the closest town to the hiking route, about 25 minutes away. Alternatively, you can take the Via dell'Amore from Genoa, which will take about an hour and a half by train or an hour and 45 minutes by car.

The road was opened after an investment of 23 million euros.
