Vatican recognizes the famous statue of the Virgin Mary from Trevigliano-Romano as a fake

The Vatican has officially recognized the famous statue of the Virgin Mary from Trevigliano-Romano, which allegedly weeps blood, as a fake. Maria Giuseppa Scarpulla, known as Gisella Cardia, who brought the statue from Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, claimed that it began to cry bloody tears and that the woman herself was receiving revelations from the Virgin Mary, attracting the attention of thousands of people.

However, representatives of the Catholic Church found out that the figure's miraculous tears were pig's blood, which was probably applied to the statue by Gisella Cardia, MailOnline reports.

Claims of the "bleeding Madonna's" superpowers have sparked widespread controversy after pilgrims from all over Italy gathered to witness the statue's "miracle" on the third of every month and make confessions before it.

Gisella Cardia, the owner of the Madonna di Treviñano, claimed that the statue has been shedding bloody tears since 2016, while also claiming that the Virgin Mary has been giving her private revelations since then.

She also boasted of experiencing supernatural phenomena, including a time when she fed 15 people endless portions of pizza, gnocchi, and rabbit. People who believed her believed she brought messages from the Virgin Mary, and some said she even predicted the Covid pandemic.

But last year, locals from the small town of Trevignano Romano, who were skeptical of the bleeding statue, called in a private investigator who met with Italian military police. The locals reportedly showed evidence that the red liquid coming out of the statue's eyes was pig's blood.

Now, the leaders of the Catholic Church have recognized this "supernatural phenomenon" as false, having it approved by the authoritative Vatican. He referred to a preliminary investigation report by the Diocese of Civita-Castellan that found nothing supernatural about the statue.

"It is clear that it is not supernatural. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church and our Mother, restore peace and tranquility for the spiritual good of the faithful of Trevignano Romano Parish and the people of God throughout the Diocese of Civita Castellana," the report reads.

In addition, the statement of the Dicastery, also known as the former Holy Office, strongly reaffirms the ban on priests from administering the sacraments or conducting acts of public piety related to the events in Trevignano Romano. The ban applies to all religious events organized by the Association Madonna di Trevignano ETS, run by Gianni Cardia, husband of the "seer" Gisella Cardia.
