Our compatriot failed to win the title

Ukrainian featherweight boxer Viktor Slavinskyi (15-3-1, 7 KOs) suffered an early defeat in a fight for the WBC Continental Americas title. The 33-year-old native of Mykolaiv lost to local fighter Omar Trinidad (16-0-1, 13 KOs) at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, USA.

The 28-year-old American was significantly superior to our compatriot in anthropometry. The favorite was bigger and more powerful than the Ukrainian and attacked more often. Slavinskyi defended himself quite well but was completely passive in attack.

By the third round, Trinidad had run out of breath, losing the rhythm of the fight, while the reigning champion's punches continued to cause serious damage to his opponent.

In the 9th three minutes, Slavinskyi pinned the American in the corner but missed an uppercut that significantly hurt Viktor. He was saved from falling only by the ropes, and the referee recorded a knockdown.

The Ukrainian boxer tried to win on points, and continued to attack, but "yawned" the second punch, after which he went down in a heavy knockdown. The Ukrainian was able to get up but did not convince the judge that he was ready to continue the fight.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, last December Slavinskyi won a spectacular victory in the United States, knocking out American welterweight Derek Harris (12-23-2, 7 KOs) in an 8-round fight.

For reference: Viktor Slavinskyi is the 2016 world champion among K-1 kickboxing professionals, in 2012 he won the European Championship of the Year in savate [a French martial art, a mixture of boxing and kickboxing]. He played for the WSB team of Ukrainian Atamans.

In 2019, the then-undefeated Slavinskyi effectively knocked out local fighter Jesus Aguinaga (5-10-2).
