The Screenwriters Guild has published the top films with the best screenplays

The Writers Guild of America has presented a list of films with the best screenplays of the 21st century. The rating is headed by the work of American director George Peele – The Trap.

  • "The Trap, 2017

The Trap is centered on a crazy family that kidnaps black people to transplant a part of their brains and thus preserve their immortality. The protagonist is an ordinary guy, Chris, who was sure until the last moment that he was going to meet his girlfriend's parents. In the end, he realizes that he is trapped.

  • "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2004

Michel Gondry's semi-fantastic drama, which has already won an Oscar for the most original screenplay, tells the story of the dreamy melancholic Joel and the cheerful Clementine. The film shows a world where bad memories can be erased, including those related to unhappy love.

A drama film directed by Barry Jenkins based on the play You Can't See Black Men in the Moonlight. The film shows three stages of growing up of a black boy named Sharon. The plot is built around the LGBT relationship between two teenagers.

A film by American director Paul Thomas Anderson. It tells the story of an oilman's tireless and obsessive work over three decades. The film is among the top 3 of the BBC's ranking of the greatest films of the 21st century.

  • "Inglourious Basterds," 2009

The plot centers on a secret American unit operating behind enemy lines. The heroes are on a mission to infiltrate a private screening of a German film and take out the entire leadership. Hitler himself is scheduled to appear at the premiere, so the task becomes extremely important and almost impossible. The film was directed by Quentin Tarantino.

A drama film directed and written by Cameron Crowe, telling a fictionalized story about a teenager who works as a journalist for Rolling Stone magazine. He wrote an article about the fictional rock band Stillwater. In his work, he describes how he lost his virginity, fell in love, and met his heroes.

  • "Memento," 2000

Christopher Nolan's psychological thriller tells the story of Leonard Shelby, an amnesiac who drives an expensive Jaguar and tries to find his wife's killer. The film received many awards, including Oscar nominations for original screenplay and editing.
