The teacher can eat a student's sandwich, and a child can leave the class without permission: what surprised a Ukrainian in a school in Spain
Ukrainian singer Olha Yunakova, currently residing in Spain with her husband and three daughters, shared insights into how her children experience education there. According to her, the educational system is notably different from the one in Ukraine. Notably, students have the freedom to leave the classroom without permission and share their food with the teacher.
Yunakova highlighted the complete freedom of action that schoolchildren enjoy during their studies. In an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA.
She shared her impressions, saying, "We have to keep our pens neatly arranged; everything is strict. But here it's different. You can get up, sharpen a pencil, leave the classroom to go to the bathroom without being asked, share a sandwich with the teacher." Yunakova mentioned how her daughter Teresa was pleasantly surprised by this freedom, narrating an incident where she shared her sandwich with the teacher and received his in return. She noted that such interactions differ from the behavior of Ukrainian teachers."
Yunakova emphasized that in foreign schools, teachers strive to be friendly with students and assist them in various ways. Even though her eldest daughter Teresa initially didn't speak Spanish, she enjoyed attending school. Additionally, the artist mentioned that teachers supported Teresa's adaptation during the first six months in the new environment.
"At school, our child was a passive listener - no one questioned her in class. Eventually, she started communicating in phrases, making mistakes, and getting confused. Today, she speaks good Spanish. Sometimes she even conducts online language lessons for children and adults," Yunakova shared.
The artist further revealed that Teresa is currently studying videography, editing, photography, and sound engineering at an educational institution equivalent to a Ukrainian college.
