The same place, but different angles. A dubbing director reveals an unexpected fact about foreign films: they are made with the same template

Ukrainian dubbing director Oleksa Negrebetsky (real name Leonid Dmytrenko) has revealed the secret of shooting scenes that capture the viewer's attention and have long become iconic moments in Hollywood films. He argues that cinematography has become a craft for many cameramen, and certain angles and locations are time-tested, so you can often find similar locations in different films.

According to the director, many foreign films are "made with the same template," because the film crew knows what things will evoke the emotions they need in the audience. Oleksa Negrebetsky spoke about this in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA.

"Regarding the technology of foreign films. I noticed the favorite points of operators - different films, but the same area is shot. For example, San Francisco. Maybe you've seen the hill in the movies that makes cars bounce and land well during a police chase? I've seen scenes filmed on that spot in about a dozen movies," the director admitted.

He named Scotland as another location. Directors like to shoot their movies in these mountains, and they add fairy tale-like atmosphere to medieval history and brutality to action.

"Let's take the films that were shot in Scotland. There's a place called the mountains, a valley. And a carriage with horses is traveling through that valley. In another movie, you can see a car from the same angle. The cameramen know where to put the camera, where to aim the lens. Such technological things always work. Why invent something new?" explained Negrebetsky.

According to him, the same applies to the script. Screenwriters know which phrases evoke the most emotions, so they use them extensively: "Here's the thing about translation again. I've translated a lot of bourgeois films and I noticed (and everyone noticed, not just me) that films are often made with the same template – they already know what will make you laugh and what will make you cry. It's not even art anymore, it's a craft. It's a good craft. Some people make it, others go to see it."

It should be noted that the dubbing director and translator Oleksa Negrebetsky can be recognized from the TV series Alf, Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, Teletubbies, and the animated films Cars, "Shrek, Hunting Season, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, feature films The Third Man, Paul, and several Marvel superhero and Transformers movies.
