The safest used cars for teen drivers: reliability and no electric cars
Teaching a young driver how to drive a new car on the road is not advisable. Inexperienced motorists are prone to mistakes, so it's better for them to choose a used car.
However, it is important that it is a safe car with a lot of technology to help in difficult situations. Consumer Reports, together with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), has compiled a rating of such models.
According to the report, features such as automatic emergency braking (AEB) have become more affordable for inexpensive used cars. The experts chose models with good crash test scores, effective braking, and high reliability for the list.
It is important to note that the experts who worked on the list did not include electric vehicles. Although cars with electric motors are generally as safe as those equipped with traditional powerplants, their rapid acceleration is a concern.
Also, according to safety experts, the driver's first car should not be too small, too big, or too fast, so they do not recommend sports cars, compacts, large SUVs, or pickups.
