On Tuesday, May 14, a heating main broke near the Ocean Plaza shopping mall in Kyiv. As a result of the incident, which occurred not far from a similar accident in 2012, the road literally turned into a river.

This was reported on social media. Traffic in the area of the emergency is significantly hampered.

"Flood on Lybidska Street. The water broke near Ocean Plaza. A huge traffic jam has formed. Cars are moving in the other direction on a one-way road," the post reads.

The photos and videos posted online show that Antonovycha Street literally turned into a river as a result of the incident.

According to the press service of the Kyiv Patrol Police, traffic is temporarily blocked due to a water main break on Antonovycha Street. All relevant services are already working at the scene. The vehicles will be moving in a specially designated lane on Velyka Vasylkivska Street, in the opposite direction.

For its part, the Kyiv City State Administration reported that Kyivteploenergo had localized the damage on Antonovycha Street. The damage to the 800 mm diameter network occurred during hydraulic testing. The heating company started this work to identify "thin" spots on the pipelines and to carry out timely repairs for increased work in the winter.

"Kyivteploenergo's emergency repair team is working on Antonovycha Street, disconnecting the area and inspecting the location for additional repairs. Lybidska metro station is operating as usual. Passenger transportation is provided," the KCSA added.

According to the deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleev, the accident did not occur at the point of the water outlet, but 100 meters away – it found the weakest point of the outlet. It is worth adding that several pipes converge on this street and they gave way.

As the OBOZ.UA correspondent noted, public utilities continue to work at the scene, pumping water out of the pit. It is worth adding that this accident occurred a few meters from the site of the breakthrough that occurred in May 2021.

As a reminder, a cold water supply network broke and a crane fell in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv on Revutskoho Street. As a result of the accident, the street was flooded with water, and traffic was temporarily blocked.
