A 1500-year-old amulet pendant was found during excavations in the ancient city of Adrianople (Turkey). The jewelry from the fifth century AD depicts the prophet Solomon killing the devil.

The pendant bears the inscription "Our Lord has overcome evil." According to the researchers, excavations in the ancient city, also known as the "Zeugma of the Black Sea," continue, Arkeonews reports.

"The image on the pendant shows the prophet Solomon on horseback piercing a demon. Solomon is important in all three major religions. He is recognized as a ruler and a prophet in Judaism, the Bible, and Islam," said the head of the excavations, Associate Professor Ersin Çelikbaş from the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Literature of Karabük University.

Çelikbaş noted that the pendant was found in Adrianople because of the military nature of the city: "We had previously discovered evidence of a cavalry unit here through archaeological finds. Solomon is also known as a commander of troops. He was also considered the protector of the Roman and Byzantine cavalry in Adrianople."

The scientist also emphasizes that this find is very important for this region and for world archaeology in general.

"The front part of the pendant depicts the prophet Solomon and mentions the victory of God over evil, and the back part bears the names of four holy angels: Azrael, Gabriel, Michael, and Israfil. This is also very important. After all, there was not a single similar artifact in Anatolian archeology. Only one comparable example was found in Jerusalem. The appearance of two similar artifacts at such a great distance indicates that this territory was an important religious center in ancient times," Çelikbaş emphasized.
