The first episode of the American crime drama series The Penguin, which is a spin-off of the legendary Batman blockbuster, was watched by 5.3 million viewers in less than a week after its official premiere on September 19. The new HBO movie, created by screenwriter Lauren LeFranc, tells the story of the criminal Oz Cobb, played by Colin Farrell.

According to Variety, the project has gained particular popularity not only among viewers but also among film critics. The approval index of Rotten Tomatoes experts is 94%.

In the drama series Penguin, viewers are exposed to events that are a continuation of the Batman finale. After the dam was blown up, the city of Gotham turned into a complete ruin. Power structures are falling apart, and citizens are in complete panic. The main character of the film, Oz Cobb, nicknamed the Penguin, sees this situation as an opportunity to become the leader of the underworld.

He wants to take the place of his murdered boss Carmine Falcone, who distributed a special drug in the form of drops, writes Reactor. To do this, he briefly becomes close to the descendant of the late leader, Alberto, and learns a secret plan to develop a new drug. Having received all the necessary information, Penguin kills the man, but a new obstacle appears on his way - the daughter of the deceased bandit, Sofia.

Another central character in the movie is a teenager named Victor Aguilar. The boy, who lost his home during a massive flood, is Oz Cobb's protégé. The penguin uses the young man to implement his sinister plans, but, according to film critics, he plays a deep philosophical role that will fully reveal the theme of the project.

In addition to an interesting plot, the series attracts attention with its star cast, which, in addition to Colin Farrell, includes: Renzi Feliz, Deirdre O'Connell, Clancy Brown, Carmen Ejogo and Michael Zegen.
