The Porsche Cayenne has long been a symbol of luxury and comfort. The automaker recently confirmed that the fourth generation of the SUV will be fully electric.

However, the current third-generation Cayenne models with gas and hybrid engines will continue to receive tweaks and updates for several model years. Experts told us what to expect from the upcoming premium sporty mid-size SUV.

The next generation of Porsche's SUV will be fully electric on the same platform as the recently introduced Macan Electric model. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said that the fourth generation will set standards in the segment as an electric SUV.

The Cayenne EV will have quadrangular headlights combined with lower main beam headlights hidden in the dashboard. At the rear, there will be a new grid structure with a large transparent element on the taillights, with a massive rear bumper mount that experts say does not quite match the production specification.

The third-generation Cayenne models with gas and hybrid powertrains will receive some updates through 2030. That's a longer time frame for the gas-electric overlap than Porsche allows for the smaller Macans, which will completely phase out their gas iterations by 2025, leaving only today's Macan Electric variants.

Porsche also confirmed that V-8 Cayenne trims will remain for many years to come. The release states that "extensive technical measures will ensure that the twin-turbocharged engine is ready to meet future legal requirements."

The upcoming fourth-generation Porsche Cayenne Electric SUV is to be expected around 2027. It is likely to borrow a lot from the Macan Electric, which is currently available with the "old" gas engine of the previous generation.

The Macan EV's PPE setup includes a 12-module 100 kWh battery pack that is capable of powering the front and rear electric drive motors for all-wheel drive. The Macan Electric SUV's configurations range from 335 to 630 horsepower with an electric range of 500 km on the most conservative models.
