In 1867, the Kyiv City Council was built in the center of the capital on the current Independence Square. The majestic building was located on the site of the modern Main Post Office and the House of Trade Unions.

The archival photos and the story were published on his Telegram channel by Kyrylo Stepanets, a Kyiv guide. It was set on fire by Soviet underground fighters on November 1, 1941.

In 1876, the City Duma was built according to the design of Olexandr Shile, which was located on the site of the modern Main Post Office and the House of Trade Unions. Initially, the building was two-story, and later a third floor was added," Stepanets said.

He added that in 1881, the Duma building housed Europe's first-night medical duty station. Unfortunately, in the fall of 1941, the building almost burned to the ground, and 3 years later it was finally dismantled.
