The first Ukrainian in 18 years: Dovbyk has scored a significant achievement
Ukraine's striker Artem Dovbyk became the first Ukrainian to score more than 15 goals in one of the top five championships (England, Germany, Italy, Spain, France) in the last 18 years. This happened thanks to the player's double against Betis.
Such data is provided by Opta analysts. They calculated that the last time Ukrainians made a splash in Europe was in the 2005/06 season. Back then, the legendary Andrii Shevchenko was playing his last season with Milan before joining Chelsea in London. In the Italian Serie A, the forward scored 19 goals and became the fourth-best scorer of that season.
Dovbyk has every chance of surpassing the achievements of the legendary striker of Dynamo Kyiv and the Ukrainian national team. After 30 rounds, the Girona player leads the list of top scorers in the Spanish league with 16 goals. Artem has eight matches ahead to improve his performance in his debut season in the Pyrenees.
We should also note that Shevchenko scored 24 goals in the Italian league for AC Milan in his first season. He repeated this figure twice more.
