The city of catacombs Forbes once wrote about: surprising facts about the small homeland of Max Barskih and the singer's dream almost destroyed by a teacher

Kherson is known for its catacombs, clocks, and cooperation with Louis Vuitton

Ukrainian singer Max Barskih is from Kherson, which was occupied by the Russians for 9 months in 2022. He fondly recalled his school years. In general, the star's childhood cannot be called carefree. His teacher and family did not support the future star in his aspirations to become a vocalist, and his father left painful memories.

When the Russians occupied the city, the artist was very worried and often mentioned it in his posts. In one of them, he wished children to return to Ukrainian schools. OBOZ.UA decided to tell interesting facts about Kherson and Barskih's childhood in the city.

Although the singer remembered school fondly and returned there more than once, he did not deny that it was during his school years that his dream of becoming famous was almost destroyed.

The singer's teacher convinced Barskih that he was a bad singer. "In the first grade, I was told that I had no voice. I was surprised as I loved listening to the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears and I wanted to sing their songs," the artist said.

His mother and sister advised the young man to become a sailor to earn good money. This profession was considered "fashionable" at the time, but Barskih brought his dream to the capital.

Interesting facts about Kherson

The city literally stands on catacombs that were formed here a long time ago. During the development, some buildings disappeared behind layers of earth. According to legends, underground labyrinths not only connect the city's districts but also lead from one bank of the Dnipro to the other. Many sections still remain unexplored.

The prestigious American magazine Forbes once named the 11-meter-high Kherson Sundial among the five most unusual street clocks in Ukraine. The monument was built in the nineteenth century.

There is also documentary evidence that the raw materials for the world-famous Louis Vuitton brand were supplied from the Kherson region when the fashion house was just gaining popularity and producing high-quality suitcases. We are talking about leather and unique fine fleece wool.

Kherson's sister city in Ukraine is Mariupol, which is still occupied. Other cities "related" to Kherson are scattered around the world, including Hungary (Zalaegerszeg), Bulgaria (Shumen), the United States (Kent), Turkey (Zonguldak), etc.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA published a route through the places of Ukraine included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This is a specialized agency within the United Nations that supports international cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture.
