The new Volkswagen ID.2, which was expected to be fully declassified in 2024, was supposed to be the successor to the VW Polo. But amid the unpopularity of EVs, the brand's cheapest model was decided to remain on sale.

The details became known to Carscoops. The Volkswagen Polo is the company's most affordable car on the global market with a price of 19,000 euros. This model was planned to be discontinued in 2025. But it was decided to extend its life.

Demand for electric vehicles is slowing down, particularly in Europe. Therefore, the German manufacturer revised its plans and decided to keep the cheapest model with an internal combustion engine on sale.

The new VW Polo 2025 will undergo a facelift and will receive economical and environmentally friendly gasoline engines. Production of the car has already stopped in Europe, so it will be delivered from South America.

VW's management has previously noted that in order to avoid a crisis, the company needs to enter austerity mode. This may jeopardize the production of some new models, including a low-cost electric crossover.
