The sequel to the popular animated film Moana, which hasn't even been released yet, has already broken its first record. Viewers in the United States have shown unprecedented interest in the film.

As THR writes, according to the online store Fandango, on Monday, the animated film by Walt Disney Animation Studios became a record holder for pre-sales of tickets on the first day. More tickets have been sold for "Moana 2" than for any other animated film in 2024.

At the same time, the film outsold even the biggest hit of the year, the animated film Inside Out 2. Moreover, the sequel to Moana became the fourth best-selling movie of any premiere in the United States. It was ahead of only Deadpool and Wolverine, Wicked and Dune: Part 2".

The sequel to Moana will be released in American theaters on November 27. In the US, it will be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and 5 days before that, Ridley Scott's sequel to Gladiator by Paramount and Wicked by Universal are due to be released. The owners of American cinemas expect that the trio of long-awaited new releases will support ticket sales after a difficult start to the third quarter.

Moana 2 was directed by David Derrick Jr, Jason Hand and Dena Ledoux Miller. Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson returned to voice the main roles. The story tells again about Moana Waialiki. The girl has grown up and is now embarking on an unexpected adventure in the long-lost waters where her ancestors call her. Johnson once again takes on the role of the demigod Maui.

The original movie about a Polynesian girl was released in 2016. The first "Moana" grossed over $687 million at the box office worldwide.

The sequel to the story was originally developed as a TV series, but then the project was transferred to the format of a full-length animated film. The film will feature new songs from Abigail Barlow and Emily Beer, and is produced by Christina Chen and Yvette Merino.

Disney released the trailer for the sequel in late May. In the first day, it was viewed 178 million times. This is more than any other movie trailer in the history of Disney animation, including Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar films. "Moana" belongs to the first of these studios.

The animated film will also be released in Ukraine in November. The premiere date is scheduled for November 28.
