Schoolgirl from Chernivtsi region sets record for English language proficiency

Diana Burdeina, an 11th-grader from the city of Zastavna, Chernivtsi region, has set a record and become the youngest Ukrainian to speak English at the C-1 Academic level. The girl is only 16 years old, and such knowledge is usually possessed by graduates of educational institutions at the age of 20-22.

Lana Vietrova, the head of the National Register of Records of Ukraine, announced the record on Facebook. She also noted that the student received a grant for free education at King Daniel University and can choose any specialty.

Ms. Vietrova noted that C-1 Academic is an advanced academic level and the fifth indicator on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) scale.

"This is the knowledge that allows not only a deep understanding of the language in a wide range of complex topics, but also recognizing hidden meaning, using idioms, specific vocabulary, terminology, simultaneous professional translations, as well as effectively using English in academic circles and confidently communicating in a scientific environment ," the head of the registry wrote.

The record was announced at the student's home school during an English lesson.
