Tesla Model Y continues to be world's best-selling car
Numbers show that the popularity of electric engines is indeed growing rapidly in the automotive market. This trend can be traced to data collected from 162 countries.
The statistics were analyzed by Focus2Move. Its experts named the cars that are currently the most popular in the world. The data is updated based on the latest available registration data from local authorities in each country.
The publication's experts say that despite the stable popularity of traditional cars with internal combustion engines, new models of electric vehicles are rapidly rising in the global leaderboard, and the automotive industry is increasingly moving towards electrification. This is evidenced by the first place in the global sales ranking held by Tesla Model Y. According to data for September 2024, 785,591 units of this model have been sold worldwide since the beginning of the year, with an increase of +1.9%.
Last year's leader, the Toyota Corolla, took second place. Its current sales are at 741,982 vehicles, which is +3.8% less than in the previous year. Ford F-Series took the third place. This model sold 572,062 units with an increase of -5.9% year-on-year.
The top five also includes the Toyota RAV4 with total sales of 673,050 units (+19.5%) and the Honda CR-V with 481,622 sales (+11.3%). It is followed by Toyota Camry (360,398, -11.2%) and Hyundai Tucson (391,813, -2.5%). Chevrolet Silverado is in eighth position (486,143 units sold, +15.5%), with Toyota Hilux is ninth (354,051 units sold, -7.8%), and Kia Sportage as the last with 351,128 sales (+4.9%).
