Ukraine to play Slovakia

Opta's supercomputer has predicted the victory of the Ukrainian national team over Slovakia in the second round of the 2024 European Football Championship group stage. The match will take place on Friday, June 21, and Serhiy Rebrov's team will only need a win to continue their fight for the playoffs.

The machine processed 10,000 simulations of the upcoming match. 43.8% of them were won by Ukrainian players. Based on this data, the Slovak team won 29% of the time. The supercomputer gave another 27.2% in favor of a draw, which would leave the Blue and Yellows with only a theoretical chance of leaving the group – in which case they would have to beat the world number one Belgium on June 26.

Opta reminds us that the Ukrainian national team conceded in all of its 12 matches at the European Championships, and in 10 cases our team was the first to do so. Also, the "blue and yellows" have two consecutive crushing defeats at the championships (from England 0: 4 and Romania 0: 3).

The teams have played four times in official matches and the advantage is on the side of the Slovak team, which has won two games and lost one. The last time the rivals met was in the 2018/19 Nations League. The Ukrainians won 1-0 at home and were defeated 4-1 in Trnava. However, that match had no tournament significance, as the Blue and Yellows won the group ahead of schedule.

The rivals played friendly games four more times. Here, the Ukrainians won two sparring matches, and two more ended in a draw.
