Famous tennis patron gave a frank interview

Ukrainian sports official Yuriy Sapronov believes that Marta Kostiuk lost in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympics to Donna Vekic because she underestimated the 28-year-old Croatian. In the businessman's opinion, the lack of experience played a cruel joke on the 22-year-old from Kiev.

Sapronov suggests that not the last role in the defeat and the coaching staff of the Ukrainian tennis player, which at the right moment did not tell her what to do.

"I saw why she lost. She lost by buying into Vekic's artistry. Ta started dying on the court," Yuriy Anatolievich was quoted by sport.ua as saying.

Sapronov thinks Marta and her coach should have watched Vekic's previous matches.

"We should have studied her. She, when she loses, she pretends her foot hurts, bandages it. She's limping. You think on the other side: that's it, it's done. And she (Kostiuk) did not finish it," - said the sports official.

Sapronoff added that he spoke to Marta the day after the loss and told her she was a smart girl and a star.

"Take care of yourself. You're tired. You're relaxed. You're going to have everything, and you're going to have the Los Angeles (2028 Olympics) gold too. Do everything you do with your team. Love yourself even more," Yuriy Anatolievich recounted the conversation with Kostyuk.

As reported OBOZ.UA, August 1, Kostiuk  lost in three sets to Donna Vekic (No. 21 WTA) - 6:4, 2:6, 7:6 (10:8).
