Ukrainian Armed Forces thwart enemy's insidious plans and inflict losses: the General Staff briefed on the situation at the front

In Ukraine, 72 combat engagements were registered in less than 24 hours on January 2 (as of 16:00). Most of them – 20 – took place in the Pokrovsk sector.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces shared the report. "Russian invaders continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders. Instead, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are disrupting the enemy's insidious plans, causing significant losses in manpower and equipment," the press service said.

From the territory of the Russian Federation, the aggressor army fired at the border settlements of Bachevsk and Porozok in the Sumy region, as well as Tymofiivka in the Kharkiv region. Russian planes attacked the areas of Taratutino and Pokrovka in the Sumy region with guided bombs.

Ukrainian troops repelled two attacks near the town of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv sector.

In the Kupiansk sector, the enemy launched three attacks near Zakhidne, Dvorichna, and Kruhliakivka. One firefight ended, and two more (as of 4 p.m. on Thursday) were ongoing. Pishchane and Ivanivka survived the air strikes of the guided bombs.

In the Lyman sector, the invading army attacked 10 times near Nadiia, Makiivka, Terny, Hryhorivka, and Serebrianskyi forest. Three battles are still ongoing, and seven were stopped by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

In the Siversk sector, Russian aviation attacked Dronivka, Pazeno, and Siversk using four guided bombs.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian troops continue to fight the invaders in the area of Chasiv Yar and the direction of Stupochky.

In the Toretsk sector, the enemy attacked four times near Toretsk and Shcherbynivka. Two of the battles ended without success for the occupiers, and two more continued. Kostiantynivka was hit by three guided aerial bombs.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the occupants made 20 attempts to push our defenders from their positions near the settlements of Myroliubivka, Lysivka, Novyi Trud, Pishchane, Shevchenko, Uspenivka, Solone, and Novovasylivka. Defense forces held back the attack and repelled 18 attacks, two battles were still ongoing. The Russians attacked Yablunivka with air strikes.

In the Kurakhove sector, the enemy attacked 13 times near Kurakhove and Shevchenko. 11 battles were completed, and two more were ongoing.

In the Vremivsk sector, the occupants attacked our troops' positions near Yantarne, in the direction of Kostiantynopil and Novosilka 13 times without success. Hostile air strikes took place in the areas of Ulakliv, Andriivka, and Novopil (four guided bombs plus unguided aerial missiles).

In the Orikhiv sector, the Russian Armed Forces continue shelling the positions of our troops and civilian infrastructure. The enemy attacked Mali Shcherbaky and Piatikhatky with multiple rocket launchers.

In the Prydniprovsk sector, Russian invaders stormed our positions twice without success. The situation is under control.

In the Kursk region of Russia, Ukrainian defenders repelled one attack by the invaders, and two more clashes continued. The Russians launched five air strikes on their own territory, downing five guided bombs.

There were no significant changes in the situation on other frontlines.
