Princess Leonor celebrates her 18th birthday

The daughter of King Philip of Spain and Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, celebrated her 18th birthday. On October 31, the girl officially became the heir to the Spanish throne. After her father's death, she will become the first reigning queen of Spain in 150 years.

This was reported by The Daily Mail. OBOZ.UA has collected photos from the solemn celebration of Leonor's coming of age.

The Princess of Asturias solemnly swore allegiance to the Spanish Constitution. This means that she can now officially act as regent in the absence of her father.

When she ascends the throne, she will become the first queen regent of Spain in 150 years, but more importantly, she is seen as the figure who will complete her father's work to distance himself from the scandal surrounding her grandfather, King Juan Carlos. In 2014, he was caught in a corruption scandal and was forced to abdicate in favor of his son, Prince Philip VI.

Obviously, this is the reason why the princess's grandmother, the former Queen Sofia, was not present at the solemn and important event for the whole of Spain. This is her way of distancing her granddaughter from her husband's corruption scandal.

In the Parliament building in Madrid, Leonor was calm, confident and calm, despite the historical significance of the moment. In addition to her parents, she was supported by her younger sister, 16-year-old infanta Sofia.

In a speech delivered to the Spaniards after the ceremony, Princess Leonor reiterated her commitment to the Spanish people and asked them to trust her when she serves as queen in the future.

The King presented his daughter with the Order of Carlos III, which is the highest civilian award in Spain. In parliament, the birthday girl received medals from the Congress and the Senate. After that, there was a subtle but touching moment that demonstrated the king's fatherly support for the heiress. Philip gently adjusted his daughter's ponytail so that the heavy-looking medals could rest more comfortably on her neck.

Leonor gently hugged her father and mother after the ceremony.

OBOZ.UA previously reported that on the occasion of the 18th birthday of the future King of Denmark, Prince Christian, his portraits with and without his parents were published. Currently, the young man is the second in line to the throne, second only to his father, Crown Prince Frederik. See what the young man looks like in our article.
