She supported Ukraine. A grand sensation happened at the Australian Open

World No. 1 Iga Szwiątek sensationally lost to Czech Linda Nosková (WTA No. 50) at the Australian Open, which is taking place in Melbourne from January 14-28. The match of the Polish tennis player, who was seeded number one in the tournament, ended in three sets in less than an hour – 6:3, 3:6, 4:6.

Before the game, bookmakers considered the 22-year-old native of Warsaw to be an absolute favorite. Bets were accepted on her victory with odds of 1.07, while Noscova's success was estimated at 8.60. Before the start of the Australian Open, Szwiątek was considered the main contender for the title. The odds on her success were 3.20.

For Noskova, this was the first victory in her career over the world number one. It was also the first time she reached the 1/8 finals of a Grand Slam tournament.

In the next round, Noskova will play against the winner of the Elina Svitolina (WTA No. 23) – Victoria Golubych (WTA No. 85) match.

It should be noted that since February last year, Szwiątek has been constantly declaring her support for Ukraine and constantly taking to the court with a yellow and blue ribbon on her headdress.

In December 2023, the Poles forced Iga to remove Ukrainian symbols.
