Mahuchikh started playing sports at school

At the age of 23, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the Olympic champion of Paris 2024, made history in the world of high jump athletics. On the eve of the Games in the French capital, the native of Dnipro broke the world record set 37 years ago by Stefka Kostadinova from Bulgaria.

According to the athlete, in her teenage years, like all children, she was engaged in art, and athletics appeared in her life a little later. "At school, I took art classes, but then sports filled all my free time. I had to go to school and get knowledge, I understood that. But after school it was hard. Especially in math," Yaroslava shared her memories, according to the Open source.

Mahuchikh was introduced to the sport by her sister, who she literally proved to be active. "She was tired of me running around the house all the time. So she decided to take me to track and field, which she was doing at the time. Back then, it was just a game for me," the athlete said.

The champion also recalled that at school she received increased attention from her classmates: "Since childhood, I liked different boys. First of all, I sympathized with the handsome boys, as is often the case at school. Boys also liked me, and in class, I was constantly given notes with hearts drawn."
