Scientists from the University of Illinois at Chicago analyzed mortality data from regions around the world, including Hong Kong, Australia, France, and Spain. These figures show that life expectancy growth is slowing down around the world.

According to the researchers, there is no evidence that radical life extension has occurred or will occur in the 21st century. However, Hong Kong residents have the highest chances of living to 100, MailOnline reports.

According to the analysis of data from around the world, girls born in recent years have only a 5.3 percent chance of living to their hundredth birthday. Boys have an even lower chance - only 1.8 percent. However, Hong Kong residents have a higher chance of celebrating their centenary. According to scientists, among children born in 2019, 12.8 percent of women and 4.4 percent of men will be able to reach the age of 100.

"Our result overturns the conventional wisdom that the natural longevity endowment for our species is somewhere on the horizon ahead of us — a life expectancy beyond where we are today," says lead author of the study, Professor Stuart Olshansky, arguing that today the main thing is to pay attention to health and focus on how to slow down aging and prolong healthy life.
