On the night of Thursday, June 6, a series of explosions occurred in the Rostov region of Russia. After that, a fire broke out at the Novoshakhtyn Oil Refinery. In addition, Russia confirmed that a fire also broke out at one of the oil depots in the Belgorod region.

Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev said that the refinery had been attacked by drones, but did not specify who had attacked the enterprise.

"A fire broke out at the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery as a result of the UAV attack. Emergency response services are working at the site. Information about the victims is being clarified," the Russian official said.

Local residents say the refinery was hit by drones. Eyewitnesses also add video of a fire at the refinery.

The Novoshakhtyn Oil Products Plant is the only oil refinery operating in the Rostov region. The plant specializes in the production of fuel oil, heating oil, marine and diesel fuel, and straight-run gasoline. The enterprise was commissioned in 2009.

Later, the governor of Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that a drone had allegedly attacked an oil depot in this region as well. According to him, one of the tanks caught fire.

It is an oil depot in the territory of the Starooskolsky urban district.

"As a result of the explosion, one of the tanks caught fire. Four fire crews quickly extinguished the fire. The blast wave smashed the windows in the security building. No one was injured," Gladkov wrote.

As of 06:50, Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev also said that the fire at the plant in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov Region, had been extinguished.

This is not the first attack on the Novoshakhtinsk refinery. The last time (not counting today's attack) explosions at the enterprise were reported due to drones on April 12 this year. The first time Ukrainian drones struck this refinery was on June 22, 2022.

By the way, it is believed that this enterprise used to belong to the Medvedchuk family.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the night of May 31, the Navy, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, hit oil terminals in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation. One of them is located in the port of Kavkaz, where a ferry crossing was also disabled. These facilities were hit by the Ukrainian Neptune coastal complex and attack drones.

The Defense Forces also defeated a Russian S-300/400 air defense battery in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. In particular, two launchers were destroyed and the command post was damaged.
