Russia fired missiles at Kyiv: debris fell on a kindergarten and a residential building, cars burned, and there are victims. Photos

On the morning of Thursday, March 21, during a large-scale Russian missile attack, powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv and nearby in the region. Air defense forces worked to destroy the enemy targets, but the falling debris caused damage and injuries.

In particular, a kindergarten, houses, non-residential buildings, and cars were hit in three districts of the capital. This was reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the Kyiv City Military Administration, who urged citizens to take shelter.

Consequences of the Russian attack on Kyiv

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a flat in the Shevchenkivsky district of Kyiv burned down as a result of a Russian missile attack:

- an apartment in a six-story building in the Shevchenkivsky district was on fire, and 15 residents were evacuated. At other addresses, windows of a high-rise building were damaged and several cars were destroyed by fire. A part of a missile was found, and pyrotechnic crews were engaged to neutralize it;

- In Svyatoshynsky district, the glazing of windows in two nine-story buildings and a preschool building were damaged, and cars were also burning;

- in Podilsky district, debris fell on the roof of a residential building, causing a fire and significant damage, and a transformer substation and warehouse buildings were also destroyed.

"All emergency services are working on the ground. The information is being updated and clarified," said Serhiy Popko, head of the KCMA.

The mayor of Kyiv reported ten people injured : six in Shevchenkivsky district and four in Sviatoshynsky district. Two people were hospitalized, the rest were treated on the spot. It is known that among the injured are an 11-year-old girl and a 38-year-old man.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko also noted that 10 people, including a child, were injured in the capital as a result of the enemy shelling. 79 people were evacuated. Rescuers, police, and psychologists are working on the ground.

Under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in criminal proceedings on violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The department added that prosecutors, investigators and expert services continue to record all the consequences of another attack by the aggressor country of Russia.

"Two people received shrapnel wounds to the limbs and face. Information about the victims is being clarified. The fragments of enemy air targets in several districts of the region damaged private houses, outbuildings, and vehicles. Fires broke out at the sites of the impacts, which were localized by the State Emergency Service," the statement said.

What is known about the Russian missile attack

It should be noted that the air alert covered all regions of the country from 03:30 on Thursday. The enemy was warned about the launch of cruise missiles, Kh-59 and aerial ballistic Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal". In Kyiv and the region, explosions began to be heard at 05:00, and air defense was reported to be operating.

The Ukrainian Air Force added that the aggressor had repeatedly launched "Kinzhals" in the direction of Kyiv. At 06:10, a large-scale air alert was announced.

According to the head of the KCMA, the enemy launched another missile attack on Kyiv after a pause of 44 days, this time launching Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles from aircraft and ballistic missiles from the territory of the Russian Federation. The alert in the capital region lasted almost three hours. During the enemy attack, the air defense forces neutralized about three dozen missiles over Kyiv and on the approach to the city, including ballistic missiles.

The Ukrainian Air Force clarified that the defenders of the sky shot down all the missiles: two Iskander-M (KN-23)/Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles, as well as 29 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on the evening of March 17, when the enemy attacked Ukraine with kamikaze drones, air defense was activated in the Kyiv region. That time, the defenders of the sky shot down 17 out of 22 Shaheds in nine regions.
