"Representatives of the 'country 404' left the team: the main problem of the Ukrainian biathlon team is named

The decline in the results of Ukrainian biathletes in the international arena is due to the untimely change of generations. The coaches of the national men's and women's teams should have included younger athletes in the Olympic cycle of the 2018 Games.

This opinion was expressed by the first Olympic champion in the history of independent Ukraine, Valentyna Tserbe, in an interview with Novoe Vremya. The former biathlete noted that there are talented athletes in our country now, but they were introduced to adult teams too late, and in addition, the national teams lack a bench.

"Back in 2016, I said that I was looking forward to a rejuvenated team that would gain experience in 2018 and win us awards at the 2022 Olympics, thanks to the experience of our Olympic champions. Our federation was loyal to the involvement of legionnaires. After the full-scale invasion, representatives of the "country 404" left our team, and all doors were opened for Ukrainian youth. Unfortunately, there are places for the national teams, and the bench needs to be bigger. In general, there are many talented young people. The same Dudchenko, Mandzin, Dmytrenko, Kinash," said Tserbe.
