Putin spoke about successful development of Russian sports, receiving death wishes from fans in response

Russian President Vladimir Putin has become a laughingstock online after speaking at a meeting of the Council for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports. The Kremlin leader spoke about how well athletes are doing in the country and expressed confidence that there will be no "political foam" in international sports.

"Despite all the difficulties that the outside world is trying to create for us, Russian sports is developing at a good pace. We are feeling confident. Sooner or later, all this political foam will come off the sport," Putin said.

The dictator said that sports are now being used to "promote narrow-minded political interests."

"This will pass. 100%. This foam will blow away. It takes time, of course," Putin added.

Russian fans wished their leader a speedy "departure" in the comments. The most hateful comment was a joke about killing Putin.
