Putin finds a new position for Shoigu and fires Patrushev: what's going on
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has dismissed Nikolai Patrushev from the post of Secretary of the Security Council of the aggressor country. His place will be taken by Sergey Shoigu, who is currently serving as the Russian Defense Minister.
Russian propaganda outlets report this. The dictator signed a decree appointing Shoigu as Secretary of the Russian Security Council on Sunday, May 12. According to Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov, Patrushev's new position will be known in a few days.
He was dismissed from his post "in connection with his transfer to another job."
According to Peskov, Shoigu "will continue to work in the area he knows from the inside, he will oversee the work of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation." In addition, he will be Putin's deputy in the Military Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation.
Peskov said that "it is very important to fit the economy of the power bloc into the country's economy so that it corresponds to the dynamics."
Nikolai Patrushev, as you know, has been Secretary of the Russian Security Council for exactly 16 years - he was appointed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on May 12, 2008.
As a reminder, Putin has proposed a new candidate for the post of Russian Defense Minister. Andrey Belousov became the Kremlin leader's protégé.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, ISW believes that Putin is probably trying to reduce Shoigu's power by balancing him with rivals. One of the proofs is the dictator's meeting with the governor of Tula region, Aleksey Dyumin, who is affiliated with the Wagner PMC.
