President recommends: favorite films of French leader Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron, the French president, loves old French films from the 60s and 70s. The French politician's wife, Brigitte Macron, is also a movie buff, and even starred in the third season of Emily in Paris.

The politician named his favorite movies in an interview with Variety. "The list is short, and the films are quite old, but I love this period of French cinema," says President Emmanuel Macron.

Greed in the Sun

A French-Italian film directed by Henri Verneuil and released in 1964. The film takes place in a small town in northern Africa in a trucking company. The main characters are three drivers: Rocco, Marec, and Mitch-Mitch, all of whom work for the boss, nicknamed "Beetroot."

When a new trailer arrives at the base, the boss hires a man with fake documents and a dubious reputation, John Steiner. He was hired to transport contraband with the vehicle. But on the eve of his departure, Rocco finds out that the new car contains something valuable worth a hundred thousand dollars, and decides to steal it. The film stars Jean-Paul Belmondo, Lino Ventura, and Bernard Blier in the lead roles.

Crooks in Clover  

A detective comedy directed by Georges Lautner and released in 1963. The story of the film begins with the introduction of a businessman named Fernand. He had a best friend who was the main gangster in town. After some time, the gangster dies. Before he passes away, he asks Fernand to look after his daughter Patricia and the entire gangster company. Fernand really took things into his own hands, but the former friends of the gangster king did not like it and declared war on him. The film stars Lino Ventura, Bernard Blier and Frances Blanche in the lead roles.

The Second Wind

A more modern film than the previous ones, released in 2007. The protagonist Gustave "Gu" Minda escapes from a French prison and plans to go to Italy, where he will find a completely different, normal life with his beloved. However, to realize his plan, he needs a lot of money, so Gustave is forced to take on a new business, but it's not so simple because the man is wanted not only by the police, but also by his old friends, who consider him a traitor after one of their joint criminal frauds. The main characters are Daniel Auteuil, Monica Bellucci and Jacques Dutronc.
