The National Energy Company Ukrenergo reported that they are currently preparing for several possible scenarios for the winter of 2024-2025. It is expected to be one of the most severe in the last three years, with power outages of up to eight hours.

Oleksii Brekht, acting CEO of Ukrenergo, said this in an interview with Suspilne. According to him, the three options include the worst-case scenario with the continuation of massive shelling of infrastructure, transmission network, and generation facilities.

"Under this scenario, given the volume of electricity imports that we have today, we may have a limitation of electricity capacity on critical, cold days, up to two rounds of outage schedules, no more. That is, up to 8 hours," Brekht said.

He reminded that in the spring, due to Russian shelling, Ukraine lost 9 GW of generating capacity, which is equal to the summer electricity consumption of the Netherlands or the nighttime electricity consumption of Ukraine in the summer.

According to Brekht, this is a "significant loss," but Ukrenergo is going to restore these capacities and has a plan.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, starting December 1, the maximum capacity of electricity imports from the EU to Ukraine will increase to 2.1 GW, which will ensure the stability of the energy supply during the winter. An additional 250 MW of emergency assistance from the EU will guarantee prompt support in case of critical needs.
