Poles start blockade of the border with Slovakia

Polish farmers have begun blocking the road on the border with Slovakia to check whether grain from Ukraine is being smuggled into their country. They intend to do this at least until the end of March.

This was reported by RMF24. It is noted that the road was blocked by tractors – and by noon on March 15, this led to the fact that "about a dozen cars and several dozen trucks" gathered on the Slovak side.

"Farmers will not let trucks transporting grain and oil from Ukraine to Poland through. They do not rule out that they will stay in Chyzhnia until the end of March... Truck drivers who fail to pass the inspection will not be allowed to enter Poland," the statement said.

It is emphasized that the protesters plan to check every truck heading to Poland and let one truck through per hour. At the same time, they promised to let cars, pedestrians, and cyclists pass unhindered.

Poles have extended the blockade of the border with Ukraine

At the same time, Polish farmers have extended the blockade of the border with Ukraine for almost 2 months – until April 30. Previously, they intended to end it on March 10. In this way, the Poles want to achieve restrictions on the import of agricultural products from outside the European Union, including from Ukraine.

This is stated in the relevant document published by the Municipal Office of the Lubicz-Korolowska Commune. According to it, 100 people will block the border.

"The public meeting is scheduled to start on March 10, 2024, at 14:30 and end on April 30, 2024, at 14:30. The goal is to eliminate the Green Deal (an EU strategy to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere) and limit products from outside the EU, in particular from Ukraine," it says.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Ukraine is ready to limit the volume of its exports to the European Union to get the Poles to lift the border blockade between the countries. Instead, it wants the EU to ban the import of products from Russia into its territory.
