Players who refused to play for the national team of Ukraine are traitors, – the president of the UVF

The President of the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation (UVF) Mykhailo Melnyk said that the head coach of the Ukrainian national volleyball team, Raul Lozano, is "in a trance" because the leaders of the "yellow and blue" team refused to come to the training camp. Before the debut season of the Golden Euroleague, the Argentine received a "different" team at his disposal, which he expected to assemble before the first May matches.

"The coach [Lozano] himself called. We talked to him – he's very disappointed. He is a world-renowned top coach. He says he's in a trance, that he came to see one team and then another. He has never seen anything like this before. There is no reason why players would refuse to play for the national team, especially during the war. They are traitors," Melnyk explained in a commentary to Suspilne.Sport.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the Ukrainian national volleyball team will meet for the first time after appointing a new head coach. In early April, Lozano replaced Latvian Ugis Kristins, who had been coaching the Ukrainians since 2017.

In April, an expanded list of players expected to join the team before the start of the new Golden Euroleague season was also released. The team will play its first official game against Lozano on May 18, with Romania as the opponent.

Plotnytskyi and Tupchyi will not join the team for the foreign championships. Four other Prometheus volleyball players informed the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation that they would be absent due to medical treatment.
