As a rule, Ukrainian gardeners plant a standard set of products on their plots. These are potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, etc.

However, some exotic vegetables can be successfully grown in our climate. Agro News tells about some of them that can be used to diversify your garden.

Pepino

Pepino is an exotic crop native to South America, also called the "melon tree". In general, it is a perennial plant, but in temperate climates, it grows as an annual on seedlings.

Pepino fruits have a sweet flavor reminiscent of melon, pumpkin, or cucumber. They can be eaten raw, dried, canned, and made into jams and sauces.

Melotria

Melotria is a small vine that produces small fruits that resemble miniature cucumbers. They have a crunchy texture and a pleasant, slightly sour taste.

However, it is best to preserve meltorias, because this way they acquire a real exotic flavor. You can also eat the tubers of this plant.

Romanesco

Romanesco is a type of cauliflower with bright green, spiral-shaped inflorescences. It has a delicate nutty flavor.

The plant's inflorescence is incredibly beautiful, so it will be an adornment of any garden and table.

Alfalfa

Loofah is a plant from the pumpkin family that is grown not only for food but also for natural sponges.

Young loofah fruits can be eaten, while mature ones are used to make sponges that are great for washing dishes and body care.

Chard

Swiss chard is a type of beet that is grown for its large, brightly colored leaves and stems that can be eaten. They taste somewhat similar to spinach.

It is a biennial plant that usually germinates in early spring. It has many varieties that differ in leaf color, so it will decorate any garden.
