Paul Walker, Harold Ramis and other late actors replaced by CGI. Photo and video
Once upon a time, humanity did not even dream of developing technologies that would allow replacing actors with computer graphics. Today, a neural network is able to recreate the image and facial expressions of a programmed image using photos and videos of it.
OBOZREVATEL decided to recall in which films actors were replaced by CGI.
1. Harold Ramis (November 21, 1944 - February 24, 2014)
Ramis' most famous role is in the first and second parts of Ghostbusters, where he was one of the screenwriters and played the role of the hunter Egon Spengler. On February 24, 2014, at the age of 69, Harold died of autoimmune vasculitis.
On November 18, 2021, a new film in the franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, came out. Viewers can see the actor who has long been dead in it. The secret is that the directors decided to create a digital copy of Harold.
2. Paul Walker (12.09.1973 - 30.11.2013)
In 2013, the star of the Fast and the Furious franchise, Paul, tragically died in a car accident. He was supposed to star in the 7th installment of this movie (2015), so the screenwriters had to change the plot a bit.
In the updated version, there is no scene of the protagonist's death. Brian, previously played by Paul, simply "retired". In some scenes, the Walker brothers played this character. The extraordinary resemblance to the actor was achieved through CGI.
3. Marlon Brando (3.04.1924 - 1.07.2004)
In the 70s and 80s, this superhero franchise was extremely popular. In 2006, the movie Superman Returns became a sequel to these cult films. Brandon Routh played the main role in it. At that time, Superman's father was played by the actor Marlon, who passed away in 2004. The cause of his death was pulmonary fibrosis. To create scenes with his participation, voice synthesis technologies and previously unreleased (archival) videos with Brando were used.
4. Oliver Reed (February 13, 1938 - May 2, 1999)
The legendary movie Gladiator (2000) won five Academy Awards. It was the last film in Oliver's career. He died of a heart attack during filming.
According to the script, Reed's character, a gladiator trainer, was supposed to live to see the final credits. Instead, the scriptwriters rewrote the plot, adding a scene of the hero's death. The actor was played by an understudy, and in post-production, his face was "replaced" with a digital copy of Oliver. This "manipulation" cost the creators more than $3 million at the time.
5. Brandon Lee (February 1, 1965 - March 31, 1993)
Brandon, the son of the famous actor Bruce Lee, was an American actor and martial artist. He tragically died at the age of 28 while filming the movie The Crow (premiered in 1994).
During the shooting scene, an accident occurred when a blank cartridge accidentally hit the actor's stomach. The star could not be saved due to a large loss of blood. The murder scenes were removed. The directors filmed the movie with the help of a stunt double, whose face was "replaced" with a digital copy of Brandon.
