"Only the Kremlin will benefit from this": Russian political analyst explains why Putin strives to return death penalty
After the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, the aggressor country Russia has started talking about bringing back death penalty once again. Russian political analyst Olga Kurnosova is convinced that if such a decision is made, only the Kremlin will benefit from it.
She spoke about this on the air of OBOZ.TALK. She noted that the head of the Russian Constitutional Court, Valery Zorik, has already said that it is impossible to return the death penalty without amending the Russian Constitution.
"Therefore, if the State Duma and the Federation Council follow this path now, it is simply further evidence that the modern Russian dictatorship is trampling not only democracy and human rights and freedoms but also its own legislation. It means that the laws are not written for them. It means they not only interpret them as they please but simply ignore them, including the Constitution," Kurnosova said.
She added that this would be a "ticking time bomb" because anyone can be charged with "extremism" in Russia. For example, the arsonist of a military commissariat.
"And, of course, this is done to intimidate those people who categorically disagree with what is happening in Russia today," the expert stated.
In her opinion, the current rules of censorship no longer work, which is why fear reigns in the Kremlin. On the other hand, it is a way to divert the attention of citizens from what is happening in the Kursk and Belgorod regions, in particular, from the raids by Russian volunteers.
"Now everyone has forgotten about it. Now everyone is talking only about the terrorist attack. They will ask who benefits from it. And we will realize that no one else benefits from this except the Kremlin," Kurnosova emphasized.
Currently, 43% of the Russian population is in favor of reintroducing the death penalty, but, according to the political expert, this is very little.
She is convinced that world leaders must understand that the only way to achieve a secure peace for the entire planet is the political destruction of the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.
"There is no other way. And such a political decision must be made because it will simplify many issues. In the end, if the Russian elites realize that there is such a solution, it may be much easier for them to decide to make a coup. I'm not even talking about the fact that it will be easier for the same volunteer groups to act if such a political decision is made. Therefore, it is very important to understand this simple thing," Kurnosova summarized.
As reported, on the evening of March 22, 2024, the largest terrorist attack in the history of modern Russia took place in the Crocus City business center, killing more than 130 people.
