"One-in-a-billion egg" sold at auction: why more than 10 thousand hryvnias were paid for it

In the UK, a one-in-a-billion chicken egg was sold at auction. The spherical egg was bought for 200 pounds sterling, or more than 10 thousand hryvnias at the current exchange rate.

According to the BBC, the egg was sold by the British charity organization Iuventas. The proceeds were used to support the mental health of young people in Oxfordshire.

The egg was donated by Berkshire resident Ed Pownell, who in turn bought the unusual shape of the egg at an auction in Scotland. The man admits that he made such an expensive purchase after a few pints (about 0.5 liters) of beer.

At first, the charity organization thought this unusual donation was a joke. But then they decided to put the egg up for sale.

"We are very happy that the egg was sold because it means we can continue to do what we are doing," says Roz Rapp, a representative of the foundation. She explained that the chicken egg was just one of many items at the auction, which raised £5,000 for the charity.

The egg was originally owned by a resident of Ayr, Scotland. She found it among many other chicken eggs in a regular supermarket. Ed Pownell calls his purchase a good investment.

David Miller, a representative of the auction house Thomson Roddick Callan, which organized the auction, says that round eggs come along once in a billion.

"The money raised will help teenagers aged 13 to 25 who suffer from mental disorders. This will allow us to reach more young people who need support or are on long waiting lists," said Roz Rapp.
