While the cosmos continuously waltzes across its vast expanse, the Earth may witness a new astronomical event. On February 7, 2024, a giant asteroid dubbed 2023 SP1 will approach our planet.

This was reported by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The asteroid is expected to approach at a distance of 54,83,088 kilometers from Earth, or a distance 15 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.

The diameter of the object 2023 SP1 is from 190 to 430 meters, and the approach speed is 42,480 kilometers per hour.

The asteroid was discovered only last year, and it belongs to a group known as the Apollo, the orbits of which are larger than Earth's. However, they intersect with Earth's orbit.

Despite its speed and size, NASA experts have concluded that there is no threat to Earth. Still, the asteroid does fall into the category of a "potentially hazardous object" due to its size.

The maximum approach of the asteroid 2023 SP1 to the Earth will take place on Wednesday, February 7 when it will be at a distance of approximately 5.48 million kilometers from the Earth.
