October is still warm in summer: Greek island offers the perfect fall getaway

Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy a vacation on the coast. The hot summer vacation season has come to an end, and the weather in September and October is still warm enough to enjoy the sea.

Travel expert Simon Calder talked about a Greek island that guarantees the perfect vacation even when most European coasts have already gone into the autumn chill. The island of Corfu or Kerkyra is the northernmost among the Ionian Islands of Greece.

Corfu is very picturesque - the rolling plains and lowlands create a unique landscape. Corfu has citrus plantations, olive groves and vineyards.

In October the average temperature in Corfu is 23 °C. Tour operators also offer an all-inclusive vacation, which includes all flights and transfers.

It is worth visiting Corfu Old Town to admire the incredible combination of Byzantine and Venetian style architecture. This town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts many attractions.

The Temple of Kardaki is an ancient Doric temple built around between 500 BC and the mid-5th century B.C. The ruins of the site are located in the Mon Repos neighborhood, which was once the residence of the Greek royal family.

The must visit list should include:

• the ruins of the temples of Artemis and Hera;
• the tomb of Menekrates;
• the early Christian Basilica of Palopolis;
• Venetian Arsenal;
• Castle of Angelocastro;
• Paleo-Frurio;
• Achillion Palace, etc.

Adrenaline lovers can rent bicycles and head to the mountain village of Episkepsi or the Pantokrator Mountains. The local cuisine consists mainly of national Greek dishes - seafood, salads or moussaka.

If you want to spend a day at sea, Paxos is the perfect island for swimming. Located a little south of Corfu, it is easily accessible by boat. During the trip it is worth enjoying a leisurely lunch in Gaios, the main town of Paxos.
