Occupants shoot four captured National Guard near Selydove: investigation launched
The Russian occupation army shot dead four captured soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine near the town of Selydove in the Pokrovsk direction. Before the brutal murder, they recorded the interrogation of wounded and unarmed Ukrainian soldiers.
The Office of the Prosecutor General reported another war crime by the aggressor country. An investigation into this fact has been launched.
According to intelligence, on October 6, 2024, four National Guard servicemen were performing combat missions at positions near Selydove. At about 13:00, Russian troops began an assault on the fortifications, during which they captured our defenders.
Later, the occupiers recorded the interrogation of the wounded unarmed National Guardsmen on video.
The next day, the Defense Forces regained their lost positions and, during search operations, found the bodies of the defenders shot by the enemy.
"The killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a grave international crime," the Prosecutor General's Office emphasized.
Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was initiated in criminal proceedings over violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The investigation is being conducted by investigators of the SSU Main Directorate in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
"For my part, I sent letters to the UN and the ICRC to ensure that the international community records these violations. Unfortunately, we are witnessing the lack of an effective response from the world to the killing of prisoners of war. It is unacceptable that war crimes become commonplace!" said Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
