Mold is a contaminant that can appear in both front-loading and top-loading machines. Its appearance negatively affects both the quality of the wash and the condition of the device as a whole – an unpleasant odor appears, and stains remain on the clothes.

One simple action that should be performed after each cycle of using the machine will help to cope with such a nuisance. OBOZ.UA tells you more about this elementary life hack.

It is important to note that owners of front-loading machines are at the greatest risk. The door seal is particularly vulnerable to mold growth. Fragments of fibers, including organic ones, accumulate in it and moisture collects. This creates an optimal environment for the growth of microorganisms, including molds.

To protect your washing machine, always leave the door ajar after washing. Air should circulate freely in the machine for at least a few hours. In this case, it will have time to dry well and mold will simply not have a breeding ground for development.

Also, don't forget to clean the washer's filter regularly. It is usually located at the bottom of the device. At least once a month, you need to unscrew it, rinse it, and dry it thoroughly before putting it back in.

If you notice the first signs of mold on the door seal of your machine, start by collecting any water that may have accumulated in the area. Then treat it with a product that will kill the fungal spores. As a rule, this is a chlorine bleach. White vinegar can also be effective. Spray the product on the sealant, leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and then wipe it off with a dry towel. If necessary, scrub the problem area with an old toothbrush, which you should throw away immediately afterward, and repeat the treatment. Finally, rinse the treated surface with water and run a long cycle without laundry, adding two cups of vinegar to the drum to rinse the inside of the machine as well.

The detergent dispenser tray should also be rinsed, as it accumulates mold, rust, and limescale. This part will also benefit from drying. If the problem persists, you need to clean it properly. Remove the tray and soak it in white vinegar or a concentrated bleach solution for 15 minutes. Then rinse and scrub thoroughly with a soapy water brush to remove any residue. Wipe the tray dry before putting it back in place. Keep in mind that you may need a long-handled brush if the litter box is deep. And that the place where this part is inserted should also be wiped with a mold remover.
