Fans of the horror genre are constantly looking for something new to tickle their nerves, and preferably without hackneyed clichés that no longer scare anyone. Critics and audiences agree that the new Irish horror Oddity meets this high standard.

As OBOZ.UA has found out, the independent film, whose title can be translated as "Oddity," tells the story of a blind woman named Dani. She has the ability of a medium and is having a hard time dealing with the death of her twin sister. The deceased was married to a psychiatrist and became a victim of one of her husband's patients. The protagonist of the film cannot find peace because of her suspicions about the death of her soul mate.

Her widowed son-in-law Teddy comes to visit the grieving woman. Dani lives in her antique shop, where she protects the items in a very strange way. She puts curses on them, which she removes at the time of sale.

Teddy, an ardent skeptic, does not believe in his daughter-in-law's abilities at first. But then he finds a way to use them to learn more about his wife's death.

On the Rotten Tomatoes aggregator, "Oddity" received 96% approval from critics and 89% from the audience. Many people who have watched the horror write on social media that they have not seen anything scarier for a long time. They praise the intricate plot and unexpected moves that make them scream in terror.

"Oddity" was directed by Damian McCarthy, who has already made many successful independent horror films. He wrote the script for the film himself. The main roles were played by Irish actress Carolyn Bracken and Welshman Gwilym Lee.

The film premiered at the South by Southwest festival in March this year. The film won the Audience Award in the Midnighter program. The film was released in the US in June. As of today, it has grossed over $500,000. The film has not yet been released on Ukrainian screens and is not currently included in distribution plans.
