For the 2025 model year, the Japanese automaker Nissan has planned to update its mid-size crossover Murano. The company has already stated that it will be a real "roadhouse".

What exactly will change in the fourth generation of the model, the journalists of Motor1 told. It will be the first Murano to offer optional massaging front seats. At the same time, all crossover models receive a new digital cockpit with two 12.3-inch displays.

In the fourth generation, the model will receive 21-inch wheels for the first time, and they will be available in Platinum trim levels. However, even as standard, Nissan's completely redesigned Safety Shield 360 driver assistance package will be available.

Considering that the previous generation Murano debuted back in 2015, there are suspicions that some reviewers and bloggers may call the new model too late. The fourth-generation crossover will be 2.6 inches wider and have almost 2 inches more ground clearance. The overall length and height are almost identical to the previous generation and it has the same 111.2-inch wheelbase. This will result in almost the same interior dimensions but with slightly less legroom in the rear at 92.2 cm compared to 112.5 cm of legroom in the front.

But the Murano's appeal has never been about cramped interior dimensions. Since its introduction in 2003, the crossover has claimed popularity for its distinctive styling, and this remains true today. Nissan uses a split-light motif, abandoning large, angular headlights and sharp angles in favor of thin lamps above a fairly symmetrical grille. Nissan keeps the V-Motion theme front and center with LED lamps built into the corners of the grille.

The updated model moves the side mirrors from the A-pillar to the doors. The aggressively curved front fenders of the third-generation Murano now replace the flat body lines that run to the rear, where they intersect with the rear wings. The curve of the Murano's D-pillar – a design feature that has been retained from the first generation – is still present, but now it is offset by chrome trim, creating a coupe-like roofline. The completely redesigned rear end features slim taillights that span the width of the doors. The license plate cutout has been moved to the lower part of the rear panel. According to Nissan, all this culminates in a "premium" style for a midsize crossover.

An even more radical – and much-needed – redesign takes place inside. The aforementioned dual displays define the interior of the 2025 Murano, which has removed almost all physical switches for digital and tactile controls. The built-in Google system is part of a technology package that also includes options such as ProPilot Assist 1.1, Invisible Hood View for efficient "vision" through the engine compartment, and 3D Intelligent Around View.

The digital driver display can be customized to several different modes, and an optional color projection display is available in some trims. You get wireless CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment, and Nissan also adds active noise cancellation to the standard list. However, you'll have to pay extra for a 10-speaker Bose stereo system.

The thorough modernization is accompanied by an all-new powertrain. Gone are the old V-6 and CVT, replaced by Nissan's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder variable-compression engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. In the Murano, this engine develops 241 horsepower and 352 N-m of torque. This is 19 hp less than the previous model, but torque has increased by 27 N-m. As for the transmission, it still drives the front wheels as standard. All-wheel drive is available as an option.

Prices for the Murano 2025 will be announced closer to its sale date, which is currently scheduled for early next year. Probably, the price for the initial configuration will start at $40,000. And the top-end Platinum AWD is likely to exceed $50,000.
